Match Report - 21st April

1st XI v Dorking 1st XI

Result: Cuckfield CC - 1st XI Won by 91 runs

Date: Sat 21st Apr 2007 @ 13:00

Ground: Cuckfield Cricket Club

Type:  45/45 over Friendly

Cuckfield played host to Dorking in the second of their league season warm up matches, having annihilated Haywards Heath in their opener last week.

A near full strength Cuckfield team won the toss and elected to bat.  On another good looking track it was Tom Mole to first assert himself on the bowlers.  His aggression was richly rewarded with a number of chances being spilled by the Dorking fielders.  Steffan Piolet looked in sublime touch and well on his way to a ton before he was run out in most unfortunate fashion.  He contributed 65 at a run a ball to a 114 run 2nd wicket partnership.  Tom Mole soon followed for 88 off 82 balls.  Cuckfield were not finished there though as Robinson (52 off 48 balls) and new Captain, Patterson (38 off 30 balls), put on 94 for the 6th wicket.  This all amounted to a colossal score of 305 in their 45 overs, surely far too many for their guests.

Patterson took this opportunity to “have a look” at his bowling options available to him and gave 7 bowlers a run out.  There were a number of encouraging signs from all of them, however, it was debutant, Jack Denyer who was the pick of the bowlers.  His Kumble-style Leg-spinners returned figures of 1-26, figures that didn’t do him justice in batter friendly conditions.

Amazingly, the plucky Dorking team found themselves up with the run rate at 96-3, however this would not continue.  Overton fired a cameo 33 off 16 balls but it was only Davies (76) who looked in any real comfort against a lively Cuckfield attack.  Cuckfield had too much for Dorking to cope with and the game fizzled out to the end with Dorking clearly satisfied to have seen out their allotted 45 overs on 214-8.  Cuckfield won by 91 runs and take some confidence into their opening Premier League match with current champions, Preston Nomads on Saturday.
