Men's

Men's 1st XI

Result: Cuckfield CC - 1st XI Won by 8 wickets

Date: Sat 19th May 2007 @ 12:30

Ground: Cuckfield Cricket Club

Type:  League : 1st XI Premier League

Toss:  Lewes Priory CC - 1st XI won the toss and decided to bat

Lewes won the toss and elected to bat.  They survived a number of chances thanks to some poor fielding but a score in the region of 60 was looking on the cards nonetheless.  They were all out for 128 thanks largely to 37 from Jonathan Aspden.  I’m not doing our bowlers enough justice for some superb bowling, however, the Lewes batsmen were not up to this level of cricket.

Tom Mole and Steffan Piolet were also still asleep when they were called upon to bat for Cuckfield.  Fortunately for Cuckfield, Chris Mole (88*) was in the mood for an early finish, no messing.  Thorpe (24*) also looking good for plenty more.  Max points for Cuckfield.

Men's 2nd XI

Result: Cuckfield CC - 2nd XI Won by 7 wickets

Date: Sat 19th May 2007 @ 13:00

Ground: Ditchling

Type:  League : Sussex Cricket League - 2nd XI Division 1

Toss:  St James's Montefiore CC - 2nd XI won the toss and decided to bat

The second eleven enjoyed a 7 wicket win over St James on Saturday.

Having been asked to bowl, Cuckfield performed well in the field and succeeded in dismissing the opposition for 143. Tom Flower in particular was outstanding taking 7 wickets and bowling unchanged throughout.

Cuckfield got off to a good start in reply, putting on 40 for the first wicket. We then lost a few quick wickets before Amer and Waghorn came to the crease and unleashed a barrage of sumptuous strokes to quickly take the game away from st James. Some of their strokes were contemptuous and one could palpably sense the messages emanating from both players - 'don't bowl there to me!'

Cuckfield breezed past their target with 18 overs to spare.

All in all this was a clinical demolition of a poorer side. This is what good sides do and it was encouraging that the side played so consistently all day to ensure there were no slip ups.

Men's 3rd XI

Result: Cuckfield CC - 3rd XI Won by 141 runs

Date: Sat 19th May 2007 @ 14:00

Ground: Hickmans Lane, Lindfield

Type:  League : Stoner Mid Sussex League Division 2 2007

Toss:  St James's Montefiore CC - 3rd XI won the toss and decided to bowl

An uncharacteristically restrained 64 from Jeremy Crampton provided the bedrock of a solid 193-4 for Cuckfield Thirds away to SJM.  Ably supported by the veteran Nigel Reid Cuckfield posted a decent score against a young SJM side at Hickmans Lane.

Despite a solid start SJMs reply crumbled in the face of some excellent seam and wing bowling from Hardy (5-9) and Poskett (three wickets on debut).

The bowlers were backed up by some superb catching, a vast improvement on the previous week's performance.  The wicketkeeper, Tommy Watson, put in another outstanding display which helped keep run scoring to a minimum seeing the home side all out for 52.

A place in the Q-F of the Wisdom Cup is at stake next week as the Thirds take on Staplefield at home.

Men's 4th XI

Result: Cuckfield CC - 4th XI Won by 13 runs

Date: Sat 19th May 2007

Type:  League : Stoner Mid Sussex League Div 3

Burgess Hill asked the 4ths to bat first and it was hard work on a wicket that had been very wet earlier in the week. Jeff S and Clive Bunce put on 32 really useful runs for the first wicket, then Matt Wynn batted 50 minutes for 11 and learnt a lot about surviving on a wicket with no bounce! Andy D was unlucky with an LBW, then 12 year old Harry Clark showed what he was made of, hitting a top score of 24 and being last out as the tail collapsed. All out 116 - worth about 160 on a faster ground, we thought.

Veterans Piolet and Fitt started steadily and took 3 wickets quickly. But Alan coma into his own when he found two great full tosses to account for Jack Simpson, a good opening bat, and then for top scorer Ben Hopkins who hit it straight down Billy M-C's throat at deep midwicket - never in doubt! Alan Piolet was so chuffed he rattled through the rest of the batting to end up with 7 wickets - and MOM!!

Under 9's

Cuckfield under 9's entertained Ansty at home in the Identilam league winning by 42 runs. Angus Cowell (19), Joe White (20) and Robert Fitzgerald (11) scoring the bulk of the runs batting first.  With a total of 250 to defend, opening bowlers Domonic Sear 4 for 7 and Robert Fitzgerald 5 for 11 in their four overs bowled superbly and restricted Ansty to 208.

Another win for the 9's in the NMSL against Fletching where they batted first again scoring 281, mainly due to extras.  Two wickets each for Domonic Sear, Angus Cowell and Harry Collins and general all round good fielding left Fletching 36 runs short of the total.

Under 10's

Cuckfield under 10's finally started their league campaign away to Horsham. An outstanding all round performance resulted in them winning by 162 runs.  Batsmen all chipped in with runs to help them reach a total of 317.  In reply Horsham wickets fell repeatedly with two Cuckfield hat-tricks.  The first for Joe Ludlow and the second for Ben Candfield who finished with 5 wickets for 6 runs of his four overs.

Under 12's

Cuckfield under 12's also had their first league match against a weakened Cranleigh side due to a local football tournament. Marcus Campopiano, Harry Clarke, Jack Bowman and Freddie Newmarch all retiring after their 25's with Jeremy Lancaster adding 21 not out in a total of 186.  In reply Cranleigh could only muster 27 all out.  A double wicket maiden for Josh Hayward and two wicket maidens for Harry Clarke helped rush out the opposition in 11 overs.  A good weekend for last years junior colt of the season Harry Clarke as he had also played a leading innings for Cuckfield's adult fourth team victory the day before.
