3rd XI

Cuckfield CC - 3rd XI vs Bolney CC

Result: Bolney CC won

Date: Sat 14th Jul 2007

Type:  League : Stoner Mid Sussex League Division 2 2007

Toss:  Cuckfield CC - 3rd XI won the toss and decided to bowl

Cuckfield's much maligned David Chaffey took a break this weekend and passed the poisoned chalice of captaincy to Peter Collins. Cuckfield won the toss and put Bolney in to bat. In spite of some good bowling Bolney made steady progress on a slow wicket and built a good score of 198 for 8 off their 47 overs.

Cuckfield got off to a bad start losing two early wickets. James Buckeridge and Andrew Middleton built a good partnership to leave the game nicely balanced with Cuckfield needing 100 runs off the last 20 overs with 8 wickets in hand. A consistent bowling and fielding display from Bolney along with some inept batting soon took the game away from Cuckfield who collapsed to 12? all out to give Bolney a well earned victory, and put a large dent in Cuckfield's promotional challenge.

4th XI

Cowfold v Cuckfield CC 4th XI

Result: Cuckfield 4th XI won

Date: Sat 14th July 2007

Type: League

JJ Kilmartin (33) and Rob Cattaneo (29) gave the Cuckfield innings a rapid start, but a splendid unbeaten 4th wicket stand of 129 between Alex Gibbs (101 no) and Clive Bunce (54 no) presented Cuckfield with the opportunity to declare after 40 overs at 231-3. Cowfold were well up with the clock in the run chase with skipper, Ian Robinson, despatching the ball to all parts of Lower Beeding. Fortunately, however, wickets were falling at the other end, and Robinson eventually departed for a sensational 96, the first of four victims in a devastating spell from 12 year-old Greg Wisdom (4-11) who rapidly wrapped up the Cowfold innings at 151, leaving Cuckfield victors by 80 runs.

Colts

In the N&MSL the under 9's played a top of the table clash against Fletching, the prize being a place in the league final. Both teams
bowled and fielded brilliantly with batsmen struggling to get runs. With Fletching only managing 212 it was Cuckfield who came out winners finishing on 240.Robert Fitzgerald with 4 for 9 and Stephen Moorton 3 for 3 were the pick of the bowlers.

Also in the N&MSL the under11's found themselves in the same position with Fletching standing between them and a place in the final.Fletching won the toss and batted first.Cuckfield then preceeded to put in their best fielding performance of the year. James Massey stole the show with 5 for 18 in his 4 overs, well supported by Ben Candfield with 4 for 5 and Josh Haywood 3 for 3. This restricted Fletching to 179 and Cuckfield hit 301 in reply, Joe Ludlow top scoring with a neat 20.

The under 9's and u10's both travelled to Three Bridges later in the week to play at the same time. Under 9's had an easy victory by 223 runs where Joe White 31, Domonic Sear 26, Robert Fitzgerald 34 and Will Smith 26 all hit quick runs. Domonic 's 4 for 6 and Sam Candfield 3 for 3 did the damage with the ball. The under 10's moved into the league semi - final against Ansty beating Bridges by 95 runs. Ben Candfield hit 22 and then took 7 for 16 in his four overs in a man of the match performance.

Lastly a final league win for the under 12's has given them every chance of a semi final spot at home to Horley. Ben Gibbs 3 for 11 helped restrict Horley to 72 for 8. In reply Cuckfield lost 6 wickets before they passed that total, helped with good Knocks by Harry Clarke and Joe Ludlow.
