Men's1st XI Result: Cuckfield CC - 1st XI Won by 36 runs Date: Sat 4th Aug 2007 @ 12:30 Ground: Three Bridges Cricket Club Type: League : Sussex Cricket League - 1st XI Premier League Toss: 1st XI won the toss and decided to bat Thwarted earlier in the year having batted first , but we thought we could go one better when Patto won the toss and elected to bat first again. The sun was out and the pitch looked like it would turn in the second innings which would play into Saeed's hands. Cuckfield reached 70 before Chris Mole (fresh, or not so fresh, from his Honeymoon) played on for 36. Thorpe's effortless innings of 55 came to an end but it was a treat to watch – this boy's got style. Some laclustre batting followed to put Cuckield in a bit of bother at 124-5 until Tom Mole and Robinson put on 75 for the 5 wicket partnership. Tom Mole made 41 and Robinson a characteristic 45. Cuckfield's tail wagged, despite the regular loss of wickets. Joint effort got Cuckfield to 247-8 off their alotted 58 overs. Smith 3/55, Parekh 4/49. Three Bridges got to 140 for two and looked on course for an unlikely win until Ajmal took the prized wicket of Khan for a run-a-ball 80. this began a procession of wickets, however, Three Bridges managed to continue to score despite the regular setbacks. Ajmal had the last say and returned figures of 6/63 to earn his side maximum points as Three Bridges fell short, all out for 211. Man of Match, 16 year old Thorpe also snared 3/50 in an impressive two spells of fast bowling on a seamers grave-yard.
2nd XI
Result: Cuckfield CC - 2nd XI Won by 6 wickets Date: Sat 4th Aug 2007 @ 13:00 Type: League : Sussex Cricket League - 2nd XI Division 1 Toss: 2nd XI won the toss and decided to bowl Highlights: Jason Oates 98* (128 balls); 100 run partnership between J Oates and J Denyer off 133 balls, 84 mins
Result: Drawn Date: Sat 4th Aug 2007 Ground: Staplefield Cricket Club Type: League : Stoner Mid Sussex League Div 2 Toss: 3rd XI won the toss and decided to bowl On a scorching hot day Second placed Cuckfield Thirds lost the toss to Staplefield and were in the field. Missing the ageing Collins the attack was opened by Davy and Lynch. The former found a full length somewhat of a challenge and he was soon replaced by Hardy. A combined age of 98 didn't deter these two stalwarts as between them they bowled 35 overs with Lynch particularly outstanding taking three economical wickets. However Davy showed great perserverance as he changed ends and ended with 4-41 a sterling effort that enabled the Thirds to take maximum bowling points, Staplefield dismissed for 187. The lengthy outfield was a major factor in the reply as Crampton and the more orthodox Goodwin struggled to score runs. After they departed Watson played some classical shots and for a while victory seemed possible but when he was out for 21 survival was the only option. Lynch and Pearce seemed to have done the job but in the end it was left to the skipper to put his best foot forward as he and Hardy saw Cuckfield to the draw at 121-9. The season is coming to a wonderful climax with four hard fought games to go—watch this space.
