Over 40s - 2008 season so farFollowing a memorable tour of New Zealand in March, the Over 40s have continued in successful vein, winning five and losing two of the matches so far in England. Notable victories have been achieved over St James Montefiore (partly courtesy of a player they lent us, and partly due to Geoffrey Longfield poleaxing one of their key all-rounders with an evil delivery that took a top edge onto the batsman's forehead - he took no further part in the game!), where we successfully chased 214, and Slinfold, who scored 212-8 after we had posted 221-7. We secured rather more comfortable victories against Polegate & Stone Cross, Willingdon and London Transport. Eastbourne Old Grammarians surprised us by beating us when our batting collapsed woefully, and the Forty Club also got the better of us. We have secured an extra fixture on 17 September against Chipstead (away, 1pm start), when we shall celebrate the life of John Falkner who was an active member of both clubs until his sad death a few months ago.
