Update on Cuckfield Ladies

Our ladies have started in their request to retain the Sussex 20/20 development league, despite very little match practice due to weather and cry offs they commenced their defence of the crown away at Brighton on a very windy and chilly Thursday evening.

Brighton won the toss and elected to bat with Pippa Dagger removing Broughton for a duck in the third over bringing Evison to the crease to join Green and they proceeded take their side to 54 off 10 overs before Catherine Mole dismissed Green well caught by Ella Kenny around the corner. In the next over new recruit Fiona Harris bowled Evison for a useful 24 and on 79 smart fielding from Harris removed Lucy Troot for three. Tight bowling from new signing Meagan Janmas and Catherine Mole kept Brighton at bay and they finished their twenty overs on 96.

In reply run machine Tash Sole  and Fiona Harris took 21 off the first over although the bowler Jade Elphick had the last laugh removing Sole for 11 with the first ball of her second over. This brought Elaine Hardy to the crease who with Fiona proceeded to put a stand of 49 together in the next seven overs when Harris was removed for 33 after the introduction of Severs. The skipper Mole (9 no) then joined Hardy (24no) and saw the team home in the thirteenth over with only two wickets down.
